Quartermaster Chief of Staff James Zacchino Jr.COL Zacchino is a native of New Jersey. His military service began in New Jersey in 1997 in the 42nd Infantry Division as a simultaneous membership program cadet. In 1998, he commissioned from Rutgers University ROTC a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.

COL Zacchino's assignments include Operations Officer in 22nd Area Support Group and the Executive Officer of the Headquarters and Support Company, United States Army Southern European Task Force in Vicenza, Italy, assignments at Ft Lee, Virginia as Petroleum Officer in the 49th Quartermaster Group, Commander of the 109th Quartermaster Com pany (Petroleum Pipeline and Terminal Operating), and as Senior Training Developer of the Combined Arms Support Command, followed by assignment to 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Ft Drum, New York, where he served as the Chief of the Iraqi Security Forces Logistics Training and Advising Team, the Support Operations Officer and Executive Officer of the 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, and as the Deputy Brigade Support Operations Officer, subsequently assigned to the United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany in the J4 Logistics Directorate as the Chief of the Joint Petroleum Office and the Branch Chief of Joint Logistics Plans and Exercises, followed by Commander of the 13th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Chief of Quartermaster Proponency at the Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, Virginia, US Army War College Fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Defense Studies in Rome, Italy, as Support Operations Officer of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command (Forward) in Vicenza, Italy, and subsequently as Commander of U.S. Army Garrison Fort Drum, NY. In July 2023, COL Zacchino assumed the position of Assistant Commandant of the Quartermaster School at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia.

His military service includes an operational deployment in support of Operation Joint Guardian (Kosovo Campaign), Partnership for Peace Exercises in Eastern Europe, three Operation Iraqi Freedom combat deployments and one Operation Enduring Freedom combat deployment to Afghanistan. COL Zacchino's military education includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, NATO Conventional Forces Europe Arms Verification Inspector/Escort Course, Petroleum Officer Course, Support Operations Course, Joint Course on Logistics, Multinational Logistics Course, NATO Petroleum Course, and the Italian Institute for Advanced Defense Studies.

His civilian education includes an Associate in Arts degree from the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany in 1992, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Rutgers University in 1996 and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in International Business from the Graduate School of Management, Rutgers University in 1998. In June 2020, he graduated cum laude with a Master of Arts in Global Strategy and Security from the Università degli Studi di Torino (Italy).

COL Zacchino's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with silver oak leaf), Army Commendation Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and the NATO Medal.
